SS501 Strawberry Post^^

Changing direction a bit from my usual chatter of Bae Yong Joon, Kim Hyun Joong and SS501 and other things that interest me...I feel guilty of not posting enough healthy things. Although postings of BYJ, KHJ and Double S surely keep your heart warm and fuzzy...and positively influence your physical and mental health.

I named this entry " SS501 Strawberry Post^^", actually it should be "Fruit Post" , but I think the former is more interesting. I've got to make this post as interesting as I can, cos I know a lot of people do not like to read health stuff. Considering what Hyun Joong is going through...I think we'd better know more about stuff like this :

1. STRAWBERRIES

Fresh strawberries [ yum yum yum !! ] in salads, smoothies, or on their own, promotes a healthy immune system.

It's nutritionally good because strawberries contain a lot of nutrients, specially vitamin C . Phytonutrients and antioxidants, which fight free radicals are also found in stawberies. It is believed that these antioxidant properties have something to do with the bright red color of the strawberry.

Hmm....what are free radicals? ...they are elements that can damage cells, and they are thought to cause many kinds of cancer.

Other than vitamin C, strawberries also provide an excellent source of vitamin K and manganese, as well as folic acid, potassium, riboflavin, vitamin B5, vitamin B6, copper, magnesium, and omega-3 fatty acids.

Not as other kinds of fruits, strawberries do not continue to ripen after they are picked, so...choose the ripest, reddest strawberries, as they have the best taste and the highest nutrient content.

Strawberries should be washed thoroughly before eating or storage. Any strawberries that show signs of mold should be thrown away as they will contaminate the other strawberries. Srawberries should be placed in a bowl, covered with plastic wrap, and kept in the refrigerator. Fresh strawberries will keep in the fridge for a few days.

2. GRAPES

Like most berries, grapes have a lot of nutritive value, grapes contain important vitamins such as vitamin A, B1, B2, B6 and C6. Potassium and sodium found in grapes are important stimulators for the nervous system.....so, those of you who do lots of studying or thinking...better eat a lot of grapes [geez...that goes for all of us then !!].

Magnesium is also found in grapes, and it helps in muscle contraction....wow this will be good for the SS501 boys...don't they practice dancing and body building a lot ?

Grapes are one of those rare fruits which are completely cholesterol free. And it is also low on calorie [rare for fruits!]. Grapes contain antioxidants such as anthocyanins, flavones, geraniol, linalol, nerol and tannins, which protects our body against cancer.

The dry forms of grapes [ yeaay ! my favorite...raisins ^^ ] contain large amounts of boron which is necessary for bones, which also helps fight tooth and gum decay. Vitamin A together with flavonol compounds found in grapes helps fight night blindness .

Red grapes contain a compound called resveratrol [ also present in red wine ] which helps control cholesterol and reduces the risk of heart attacks. Resveratrol is also used in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease.

3. LEMONS

Lemons have many benefits for our health. One lemon is equivalent to 83mg of vitamin C

Vitamin C provides many benefits, it promotes wound healing through collagen formation. Taking vitamin C is good if you have cuts, wounds and burns as they will heal faster!

Vitamin C could boost the immune system of our bodies against the common cold. Most antioxidants we get are from vegetables and fruits like lemons. Vitamin C is water soluble, so that it's the best antioxidant to target free radicals within the blood stream and plasma.

Lemons are used to lift people’s mood....call it lemon psychology ^^

Ever wonder why many manufacturers today produce products with lemon scent in them??. You can find lemon scented disinfectants, sanitizers, shampoos, laundry powder, air fresheners, liquid detergents, and balms, even candies and juices.. Studies have shown that lemon scent has a mood lifting effect. It is a great remedy for mood swings caused by depression ....Okay... all of you... depressed cos of Kim Hyun Joong's health condition??.....buy lemons and start sniffing ! .... on second thought....can anybody send him some too?....but please make it clear to him it's only for sniffing...not eating !! We don't want Hyun Joong's stomach ulcer to flare up :(

4. KIWI

The Kiwi fruit is a rich source of several nutrient elements like vitamins, proteins and fiber. Kiwi fruit is a rich source of vitamin C and also contains vitamins A and E. Kiwifruit has positive effects on our immune support, cell damage and repair and cardiovascular health, as it contains twice the amount of vitamin C as compared to an orange. It also contains some amount of potassium and a high amount of dietary fiber. The skin of the Kiwi fruit is a source of flavonoid antioxidants. This fruit could be consumed with it's skin.

Did you know that kiwifruit's history is more than 700 years old? Kiwifruit's history began in the Yang-tse river valley in China, where it was called "Yangtao." The Yangtao was considered a delicacy by the court of the great Khans who cherished its delicious flavor and emerald-green color. Brought to the United States in 1962, it was re-named Kiwifruit after New Zealand's national bird the "kiwi."

Btw, Kiwifruit could also be used as a natural meat tenderizer. Just cut it in half and rub it over the meat, or peel and mash with a fork then spread it on the surface of the meat.... let stand for 10 to 15 minutes or longer

5. ORANGES

Orange is one of the most favorite fruit in the world. It is loaded with vitamins, specially Vitamin C. This powerful vitamin protect our body against harmful elements. And other nutritional contents of the Orange fruit are :

-Betacarotene ---> a powerful antioxidant that rotects your cells from being damage.
-Calcium --------- > protect and maintain the health of our bone and teeth.
-Folic Acid --------> promote proper brain development.
-Magnesium ----- > helps maintain blood pressure.
-Potassium -------> maintain electrolyte balance in the cells, and is important in maintaining a healthy cardiovascular system.
-Thiamin ---------> helps to convert food into energy.
-Vitamin B6------> helps support the production of hemoglobin that carries oxygen to all parts of the body.

Wooowieee....I didn't know all those things about Oranges before writing this post !! Oh, I'll be respecting those yellowish-orange round buggers more after this ^^

Course, don't go out and buy all the Strawberries, Lemons , Grapes , Kiwis and Oranges you can find !!....do it in moderation....if you suffer from gastritis or stomach ulcer, it's better to eat them after a meal to protect your stomach from the acids , specially for Lemons and Oranges... go easy on them :) [or avoid these fruits all together if you've got a bad stomach condition].

Okay, I'm done !! Ha ha ha......I'm predicting that some of you will run away and never come back to my blog after this ^^....afraid that I'll be holding another lecture !!...which I will, when the mood comes over me and I have enough time, that is....

Hmm....for my next post......eh...
I know !!.....since Park Jung Min loves CARROTS so much....ehh....he he he....

HEY !! Wait a minute.....O my !! Baby, what are you doing with those Kiwis??

HJB : Look at my gorgeous big green eyes ..he he he
